Jessica McClintock was a widowed mother of a young son when she arrived in California in 1969 with a teaching credential in hand. However, fate turned into another direction, instead of using her educational background, she used her skills which she learned at her early age from her grandmother who was a seamstress.
From 1969, McClintock continuously created new and innovative designs and then expanded her single line of dresses, Gunne Sax, to a multifaceted apparel company, composed of design divisions that cater to the bridal, designer, missy, junior and children's wear customers and then much later perfumes/frangrances which she introduced in 1988.
Jessica McClintock, Inc., became a vast national and international wholesale business selling Jessica's designs throughout North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Using the same passion and creativity, Jessica has also expanded her business empire by venturing into the highly competitive retail market with 41 company owned boutiques, and plans for opening more.
Jessica McClintock perfume which was started in 1988 became one of the top selling fragrances in America. The second fragrance, Jess, launched in 1995, established Jessica McClintock as a star in the fragrance business. The Jess fragrance was nominated for a prestigious FiFi Award in recognition of unique and sophisticated packaging. Aside from the famous women's perfume which Jessica McClintock designed, she also designed men's perfume.
Jessica McClintock has also formed a licensing division. The product lines include China, Eyewear, Handbags, Jewelry, Handmade Area Rugs, Home Furnishings and Furniture.
McClintock has received numerous awards and acknowledgements over the years for her romantic designs, among them were:
1. California excellence award,
2. California Mart's California Designer of the Year Award,
3. Special 1996 Tommy Award from the American Printed Fabric Council,
4. Bridal Information Resource's Retail Choice Award for 1996 and 1997 for social occasion and bridal apparel.
Jessica has been consistently named among Working Women's Top 50 Women Business Owners since 1994. She has been granted a Doctorate of Humane Letters by the Academy of Arts College in San Francisco and has received two lifetime achievement awards, and the Excalibur Award from the American Cancer Society.
Jessica McClintock, a self-made woman, continually establishes herself as a major leader in any field she pursues. Using technology, business acumen, and creativity, Jessica McClintock embraces the challenges of the next century.
