Giornea refers to a long, sleeveless overgown of the Renaissance Era. Usually, open in front and down the sides, and mostly elaborately trimmed and decorated. The open front and side s allowed the underdress to show through. Generally, the Giornea includes train, although there were a lot of laws, discussions and controversies regarding ist length and many sumptuary laws and discussions about the lenght and opulence. Giornea was worn similar to the Cioppa, the only difference was that the Giornea was sleeveless and open at the sides.
