Zoltan Halasz is a fashion Illustrator who was born in Hungary in 1957. Zoltan Halasz started his fashion career in 1975 after finishing school by working for a fashion magazine in
Budapest for three (3) years and also worked as a freelance photographer for theatres and exhibitions.
He left Hungary and 1979 and was granted political asylum in Britain. In London, he pursued a fashion/business studies, a Bachelor of Arts course at the American College in London.
He started working as a freelance illustrator 1981. His signature bizarre drawings of dream-like figures, a Wagnerian or Fellini-esque pageant of eccentric and disturbing characters surprised London's fashion editors, this has faved the way for Zoltan - he received his first Commission job from Vogue in 1982
Zoltan's job at Vogue, was followed by series of more jobs and travels in various fashion capitals of the world, namely:
(1) New York, USA where he worked for the New York Times, American Vogue and Interview;
(2) Paris, France where he worked for Liberation and Femme; and exhibited his work at the Musee des Art Decoratifs, Palais de Chaillot and the Palais de Louvre.
(3) Milan, Italy where he contributed to Vogue Italia and Donna;
(4) Japan where he collaborated with Issey Miyake and
participated in exhibitions there for Shiseido and Mitsukoshi;
Zoltan's exquisite series of 3-dimensional photo-drawing montages for Japanese fashion designer Issey Miyake are an outstanding example of where an illustrator can assert a designer's image with greater freedom than within the technical confines of photography.
In Britain he continued to execute advertising campaigns for Young and Rubicam and J. Walter Thompson and has participated in exhibitions at the British Council.
Zoltan moved to Paris in 1989, then in 1991, he worked with Harpers Bazaar on photography projects. He has produced striking images for famous fashion designers, such as Yves St. Laurent, Christian Lacroix, Azzedine Alaia and Christian Dior.
Zoltan Halasz is to one of today's most original fashion illustrators, combining his drawings with fabrics, flowers, gems and organic and inorganic materials, to create striking 3-dimensional montages.
