Pijama Palazzo refers to a silk dress characterized by very wide trouser legs similar to Pajama (Pyjama) which was launched into the fashion world in 1960 by Irene Galitzine. It was o ne of the highlights of Irene Galitzine fashion fame. The neologism "Pijama Palazzo" was propagated by Diana Vreeland in an article published on Vogue magazine.

1960 January. I.G. at Pitti Palace, in Florence, presents for the first time her famous Palazzo Pijama during the show of the S/S collection.

The American Press went into rapture over this outfit and Diana Vreeland has it photographed at Palazzo Doria, from which the name Palazzo Pijama.
